Recent Statistics for Celebrants

Important information to help you tell your story and take advantage of the growing market need within the wedding industry for Celebrants.

  • The figures below are from The Wedding Report 2018:
    • More than 2 million marriages occur per year
    • The 2018 wedding market was worth $54 billion
    • 2018 Average Wedding Cost: $24,723
    • 2019 Average Wedding Cost: $38,700
    • That is a 56% increase in one calendar year, when the cost was -4% the year before
  • The WeddingWire Report released in 2019 is based on 18,000 newlyweds married in 2018:
    • 80% of couples plan a wedding online
    • 58% marry someone with different background: religion, ethnicity, region, race
  • The Pew Research Center reported in February 2019 on these U.S. trends:
    • Re-marriage is on the rise
    • 1 in 6 married someone of different race/ethnicity
    • 39% of marriages are between spouses of different religions (doubled since 1960)
  • In 2017, The Wedding Report shared the following numbers:
    • 25.7% of couples had friends officiate the ceremony
    • 22% were married in a church

Most couples are not getting married in churches or other religious institutions, and the number of mixed faith weddings is rising. Therefore, the need for secular wedding officiants, like Celebrants, is projected to remain on this growth path!
