Celebrants are trained, certified professionals able to create and perform high quality personal ceremonies for individuals, families and organizations. In short, a celebrant is someone who is trained in creating celebrations for life’s milestones.
These courses are for both practicing celebrants, officiants as well as those who are new to officiating and have never done a single wedding. Here are the types of individuals who would benefit from this program of studies:
This program of studies is conducted in an online platform with a live teacher and a cohort of students. All you need to have to participate is a computer or laptop so that you can log on to the internet. You will need to be able to play the videos that are part of each class, as well as download documents. If you can do that, you are in good shape. If you aren’t sure how to do any of the above, we have a fabulous tech team who can patiently guide you through anything you’ll need to know. Relax – we’ve got this!
To earn a Masters Certificate as a Certified Celebrant, one must take a six-month, six class course of studies. To earn an Associates Certificate, one must take three courses. See the Course Schedule for more details on the required courses.
All courses are Pass/Fail.
All instructors are highly experienced, award winning Celebrants. You can read their complete bios before getting started. At times, there will be courses offered by guest instructors who excel in the various course topics.
These courses will train you so that upon graduation, you will be able to start a successful celebrant career. Each state’s laws vary regarding legal requirements to officiate. Some states also have laws which vary from county to county. In some states, completing a six-month program of studies for officiating will grant you the legal rights to officiate weddings. Part of our course work will be to advise you on what you will need to do to be able to legally officiate weddings in the state in which you reside.
You can read more about a Humanist point of view, to see why these courses would be right for you. Our academy does not teach theology and/or ‘ordain’ ministers of any particular faith. Instead, we promote for our celebrants to act as a neutral party, not taking sides in any one faith over another.
At this time, there are no specific scholarships linked directly to our program. If you are a Celebrant with the Humanist Society, there may be scholarship monies available for education. Inquiries may be made to Brody Armstrong at [email protected].
Our instructors are qualified educators and dedicated to your success! Meet some of our most successful Celebrants.
